Rosewood Bookcase by Poul Hundevad in Denmark, 1970s

£775.00

This is a very stylish and elegant bookcase.

It was made by one of the most respected designer/makers in Denmark in the 20th century.  The designer was Poul Hundevad.

There were, of couse, several Danish furniture makers in the 60s and 70s, many were cashing in on the boom in interest in their country's designs, but designer/makers like Poul Hundevad and Omann Jun were different.  They were interested in the detail of the design, the quality of the workmanship and the higher end of the market.

The back of the shelves are beautifully finished in striking matching rosewood veneers and although useful for books, as display shelves for glass or porcelain the piece would be very effective.  The shelves are adjustable and sit on hidden brass pegs.  Inside the cabinet there are three sliding drawers and more shelves all in a contrasting blond wood.  The bookcase top sits on the cabinet base and separates for easier carrying.

The piece is in very good condition, conducive to its age and use.

The measurements are 54½ inches wide, 17 inches deep and 77 inches high.
